Assam Police arrested 14 persons from different parts of the state for writing controversial posts on social media in support of Taliban in Afghanistan.

Special DGP, GP Singh on August 21 informed that the state police arrested 14 persons for the “adverse/objectionable posts supporting Taliban”.

Singh advised people to be conscious on social media platforms and be cautious while posting or liking any post.

“@assampolice has arrested 14 persons for social media posts regarding Taliban activities that have attracted provisions of law of the land. People are advised to be careful in posts/likes etc on social media platforms to avoid penal action,” Singh tweeted.

The arrests were made in Darrang (1), Kamrup (2), Cachar (1), Barpeta (2), Dhubri (2), Hailakandi (1), South Salmara (1), Goalpara (1), Hojai (1) and Karimganj (2) districts.

Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, seizing the presidential palace and taking control of Kabul after president Ashraf Ghani escaped from the country. People in the country are gripped in fear and have been attempting to flee.
