Director Samujjal Kashyap’s new Assamese short film ‘The Radio Guy’ was released on August 6 in presence of popular actor Ravi Sarma, Sasanka Samer, Ranjeev Lal Barua, Devasish Sharma, among others.

Kashyap’s immediate release after last month’s ‘Lovebirds’ follows the heartwarming story of a radio jockey (RJ) who chooses to deal with life’s problems one at a time, learning a thing or two about life in the process.

Ravi Sarma praised Samujjal Kashyap and the film’s fresh outlook. “It is a lovely film that keeps the freshness alive and Samujjal has been immersed in the art which has kept his creativity flowing like a freshwater stream,” he said.

“Many of us struggle to express our emotions and feelings, give wings to our imagination, and fulfill our life’s most cherished ambitions. However, in the middle of our own personal struggles, we do come across a few instances in life that teach us what it means to love and be loved, to miss and be missed, to lose and be lost in ourselves. This short film is about such wonders of being human,” read a statement from the makers.

‘The Radio Guy’ features Sasanka Samer in the lead role along with actors Badal Aryan Sinha, Hira Neog and Harsh Siddhanta.

Sasanka Samer, an actor and songwriter, began his career as a radio host before branching out into music and performing. He reflected on his past while thanking director Kashyap for sticking to his word about making a film on an RJ.

“We were supposed to make this film a long time ago, but it never materialized. I’m so delighted it has happened now”, he added.

Also present in the release event was Devasish Sharma of Deepsikha Foundation who praised the film – ‘The Radio Guy’ – and Kashyap’s effort – both as a director and also a cinematographer.

“We sincerely hope that audiences across Assam and beyond will shower all their love for the film as we intend to continue working towards achieving excellence in the craft of telling stories while amplifying the essence of rooted, everyday tales,” said the director in a statement.

The script is written by Harsh Siddhanta and the title song composed by Harzeet Diaz has been vocalized by Joi Barua. It is shot and edited by Samujjal Kashyap himself along with editor Ambarish Borkotoky.

‘The Radio Guy’ is now available to stream on YouTube.
