File photo: Assam-Mizoram border clashes

Mizoram’s Kolasib district deputy commissioner H Lalthlangliana, made a public appeal to avoid visiting the Assam-Mizoram border areas where police are deployed, in order to eschew brewing of tension in the area.

The deputy commissioner mentioned that an incident took place on August 17 at about 2 am at Aitlangpui, close to Bilaipur village, where shots were fired by the Assam Police at three Mizo civilians, who went there to meet a person going under the alias ‘Nibus’, a resident of Bilaipur, on the latter’s invitation.

One of the civilians who was injured while fleeing the scene, was treated and released this morning from PHC, Vairengte.

H Lalthlangliana has conveyed his dismay to the Hailakandi DC regarding the Assam Police opening fire on the civilians and also requested the DC to take stern action against the alias named Nibus of Bilaipur for luring the three Mizo civilians near the police duty post, thus endangering their lives.

Following the incident, Kolasib DC has reiterated to the public to avoid visiting the border areas and to also avoid spreading false news, which may further aggravate the tension in these areas.
