An Imphal-bound passenger was apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after detecting USD 93,600 currency notes, worth approximately Rs 68.70 lakh, at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport in Guwahati on September 1.

The apprehended passenger was identified as 25-year-old Arbajuddin Male.

According to the reports, Arbajuddin Male, travelling to Imphal transit at Guwahati by an Air Asia flight, approached for PESC and during screening of his hand baggage by CISF ASI Exe SK Singh had some doubt and referred the bag for intensive physical check.

Sub-inspector Dalip Kumar, on-duty baggage checking officer at Guwahati airport, checked the bag and prima facie no objectionable article was found. When the CISF sub-inspector noticed that the weight of the empty bag was not normal, he detected one false bottom on thorough checking.

When false layer was opened approximately USD 93,600 currency notes, worth approximately Rs 68,70,240, was found.

The passenger claimed that, he was carrying the currency to Imphal to hand over someone else whom he does not know.

Customs was informed and as per their direction the CISF personnel had apprehended the Imphal-bound passenger.

Meanwhile the director general of CISF appreciated vigilant CISF personnel ASI SK Singh and SI Dalip Kumar for detecting huge amount of foreign currency and awarded cash reward of Rs 10,000 to both of them.
