Shamator Battalion of Assam Rifles in Nagaland organizes programme on World Heart Day

The Shamator Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North)/HQ 7 Sector AR observed World Heart Day on September 29 at Shamator Town Baptist Church in Tuensuang district of Nagaland.

The event was aimed to commemorate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ focused at creating awareness among the local population regarding importance of having ‘healthy heart’ as cardiovascular diseases remain number one killer, resulting in 18.6 million deaths a year.

A large number of locals from the nearby areas took part in the day-long programme. During the occasion, a presentation was carried out to raise awareness about various heart diseases and their serious complications which may even cause mortality.

A presentation was delivered by 2IC Dr Jacob, CMO at Shamator Battalion, about the causes of heart diseases. He said that habits like excessive smoking, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, excessive alcohol consumption, high cholesterol, unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity etc. may lead to cardiovascular diseases.

The gathering was also briefed about the preventive measures as to eat healthy food, vegetables, quit smoking, maintain desired weight, reduce alcohol intake, reduce extra salt intake, to main normal blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, good physical activity, use medical app to connect to health, regular medical check-up.

Rev. R Thsankiu, pastor at Shamator Town Baptist Church, expressed gratitude to Shamator Battalion of Assam Rifles for conducting the health awareness programme on healthy heart which is really essential for the community.
