The Assam government decided to appoint Olympics medal-winning pugilist Lovlina Borgohain as deputy superintendent of police (DSP).

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held in Guwahati  on October 28. The state cabinet decided that Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borohain be appointed as deputy superintendent of police on probation.

Announcing the cabinet decision, Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu said that after Lovlina Borgohain created history at the Tokyo Olympics, the Assam government had announced that, like Hima Das, Lovlina will be appointed as DSP of Assam Police and today the Assam cabinet has approved it.

Along with Olympics gold medal-winning javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, Indian women cricketer Mithali Raj, Lovlina Borgohain’s name has also been recommended for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2021 – the highest sporting honour in India.

The Assam education minister further said that the state cabinet also decided to give incentives to the frontline health workers for their outstanding contribution in fight against COVID-19.

“The Assam cabinet has decided to give Rs 2000 each to 10854 ANM, 9420 verifier, 200 support staff, Rs 1000 each to 32715 ASHA workers and Rs 500 each to Anganwadi helpers. We have been able to vaccinate more than 2 crore people of the state so far,” Pegu said.

The other decisions taken by the Assam cabinet include: Rs 160 crore working capital to Assam Food & Civil Supplies Corporation Limited for procuring paddy from state’s farmers by providing then minimum support price of Rs 1940 per quintal; Rs 508.60 crore to be raised by state government for NABARD for project sanctioned under RIDF-XXVII, loan amount to be repaid within 7 years with a moratorium for 2 years at 2.75 per cent interest; Orunodoi scheme exempted from the purview of Concurrence from October 2021 onwards; Kritoyata portal to be the front-end for processing all pension cases and for matters related to pay fixation; Pension Seva Kendras to be set up by AMTRON in district offices of Education department with installed facilities like scanners etc, for cases of other government department employees, among others.
