Elderly couple found ‘murdered’ in Guwahati

An elderly couple was found dead at their residence in Guwahati on October 26 morning, eyewitnesses said.

They have been identified as Noni Gopal Barua (86) and his wife Meena Baruah (80). Locals said that they witnessed injury marks on the head of the deceased.

The couple has been living alone at their home in Beltola Survey area of Guwahati and their daughters stay outside Assam as per local media reports.

“Robbers broke into their house. When the couple resisted, the robbers might have killed them,” said a neighbour.

This is the second incident of murder in the main city of Assam in the last one week.

Police arrived at the crime scene and started investigation.  More updates awaited.

According to preliminary investigations, robbers entered the property through a shattered window. A number of items were reported stolen.
