Assamese film ‘Jolsobi’ (End of Spring), directed by Jaicheng Zxai Dohutia, has been selected for the 45th São Paulo International Film Festival, popularly known as Mostra, which is scheduled to be held from October 21 to November 3 at São Paulo in Brazil.

An Indo-German co-production, ‘Jolsobi’ will be competing in the New Directors Competition section of the festival which is dedicated for first and second films directors of fiction or documentary feature films, along with other national and international productions.

Jaicheng Zxai Dohutia, director of the critically-acclaimed ‘Haanduk (The Hidden Corner)’ which had previously won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Moran at the 64th National Film Award 2017, took to Facebook to express his joy about the selection.

“Happy to share that my new Assamese film Jolsobi (End of Spring), an Indo-German co-production, starring by Darathie Bhardwaj is selected for Competition Section at prestigious 45th São Paulo International Film Festival, Brazil. 🥳 Congratulations my team!! It’s a World Premiere! Jolsobi জলছবি #assamesefilm”, he wrote.

Set against a rural backdrop, ‘Jolsobi’ tells the story of Tapashi, who after finishing university returns to his family’s farm in the countryside. Tapashi dreams of getting something for herself and her family as she navigates a place and a life that are completely different from her expectations.

The key roles in the film are portrayed by Darathie Bharadwaj, Numal Chandra Gogoi, Durlabha Moran and Dulukanta Moran. Made under the banner of Mayamara Art & Culture in association with Mogador Film (Berlin), FunDe Mental Studios (Frankfurt) and Arman Productions (India), the film is produced by Jaicheng Zxai Dohutia, Bhupali Moran and co-produced by Arman Ahmed, Christoph Thoke, Andreas Lucas, Srikumar Dohutia & Manash Protim Dutta.

Other Indian films competing in São Paulo International Film Festival this year include PS Vinothraj’s ‘Koozhangal (Pebbles)’ and Ajitpal Singh’s ‘Fire in the Mountains,’ both of which are in the New Directors Competition section.

The film festival will also screen films made by internationally acclaimed filmmakers like Asghar Farhadi and Wes Anderson.
