At least 20 people were injured after a clash broke out between the members and supporters of Congress and National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya’s Rajabala assembly constituency in West Garo Hills district.

The incident took place at Garodubi area on October 27 evening on the last day of campaign for bypolls in Rajabala assembly constituency.

The district administration said that, at least 20 people were injured in the clash between the supporters of two political parties.

The injured persons were rushed to nearby hospital.

Security deployment has been increased in the area following the incident.

On October 27 at 4 pm, the campaign for the byelections in Rajabala, Mawphlang and Mawryngkneng assembly constituencies came to an end.

Byelections for three assembly constituencies in Meghalaya will be held on October 30. Counting of votes will be on November 2.
