Forest department officials seized a large number of body parts of wild animals, two alive gecko lizards along with arms and ammunition from the house of a forest officer in Assam’s Kamrup district on November 10.
A top official of state forest department said that, based on secret information, a team of North Kamrup Forest Division had launched a raid at the house of Arup Baishya who is Forester-I at Sanpara Parbat Bonshar area under Sualkuchi police station on November 10 morning.
During the search operation, the forest officials recovered one deer skin, a bag full of Porcupine facial bone and thorns, suspected turtle shell bone from outside of the house.
The team had also seized one double barrel gun, one single barrel gun, two alive gecko lizards, both used and unused cartridges, animal catching net, hammer, liquor bottles and other items inside from the house.
“Arup Baishya was not present at his house while the raid was conducted. We have issued an arrest warrant against him and he is now absconding,” the forest official said.
Meanwhile, Assam forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya tweeted: “From drugs to animal trade, our government under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is implementing zero tolerance policy against all illegal acts across Assam. Today’s raid by North Kamrup Forest Division team is one such highlighter again.”
