After bird flu cases were reported from Alappuzha district in Kerala, around 12,000 ducks were culled in a ward on December 10.

Reports said that samples from different areas were sent to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh for testing and identification of the bird flu cases.

On December 10, a total of 12,000 ducks were culled in ward number 10 of the Thakazhi gram panchayat in Alappuzha district of Kerala.

The decision to cull the birds were taken at an emergency meeting on December 10. The meeting, chaired by Alapuzha district collector, decided to intensify the actions to prevent avian flu from spreading to other areas.

The cases have been confirmed in ward number 10 of the Thakazhi gram panchayat and the area has been declared as a containment zone, reports said.

The movement of vehicles and people in that area have been prohibited.

Further, the district administration has banned the use and sale of eggs, meat and manure of ducks, chickens, quails and domestic birds in the affected areas.
