Mukul Sangma

Trinamool Congress leader and former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma has lashed upon the Congress party for providing support to the National People’s Party (NPP)-led government in Meghalaya.

NPP is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mukul Sangma alleged that by extending support to the alliance, the Congress has “betrayed its ideology”.

“It is a complete betrayal. It is in contrary to what Indian National Congress have always stood for. It is the reflection of their desperation to remain in power,” Sangma said.

On December 17, the five Congress legislators led by its legislature party leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh met chief minister Conrad Sangma at the secretariat and made the surprising offer in “public interest”.

“It is a reflection of the fact that the Congress in Meghalaya is in a complete disarray. They are victim full of confusion. That is the reason why I have said that instead of remaining in Indian National Congress, if they have the resolve to serve the people and the state,” the TMC leader said.

Urging the five Congress legislators to join the TMC, Mukul Sangma said: “It is the only platform where they can do justice to the responsibilities vested upon them.”

“Today, if you go by the declaration of Congress Legislature Party, associating them with NPP and BJP-led MDA government or in other words, Congress has decided to be part of the government where NPP and BJP are actively associated. It is a complete betrayal. It is in contrary to what Indian National Congress has always stood for. It is the reflection of their desperation to remain in power,” he added.
