One injured in firing along Assam-Manipur border

A person was injured in a firing incident in Assam’s Cachar district, along the Assam-Manipur border on December 14.

Police said that suspected NSCN-IM rebels tried to take shelter near the Jirighat area which was opposed by the locals. This led to verbal altercations and later, the rebels opened fire and injured a civilian.

According to reports, the firing incident took place at Namdeilong punji near Chamtilla bordering Manipur-Assam, under Jirighat police station.

A villager was injured in the firing and had been rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment.

An investigation team led by SP Cachar Ramndeep Kaur has reached the spot.

Security have been beefed up along the Assam-Manipur border following the incident.
