Siang river in Pasighat

Preparations are going on for the mega Siang River Festival-2021 at Raneghat near Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district.

The festival will be held on December 20 and 21.

The two-day festival is being organized on the bank of the Siang river in Pasighat as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark 75 years of India’s Independence, officials said.

The Siang chapter of the ‘Brahmaputra Utsav’ themed ‘River Rejuvenation & Freedom Struggle’ is being organized by the state government in collaboration with the Brahmaputra Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, deputy chief minister Chowna Mein and Brahmaputra Board chairperson Rajiv Yadav are scheduled to attend the inaugural ceremony.

The festival is set to witness cultural presentations by the folk artistes of various Northeast states under the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC). Folk artistes from the state will also participate on the theme of river & freedom struggle. Exhibitions by SHGs, food stalls, and exhibition stalls on tourism, drug de-addiction, Poshan Abhiyan, handloom & handicrafts items, and various other government departments will also be put up.

Sources added that various events and activities to create awareness on river cleaning, rejuvenation, rainwater harvesting, storytelling on freedom fighters, painting competition on water conservation, Shramdaan at local water bodies etc were also lined up as a run up to the main event beginning December 17.
