Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 15 ‘reprimanded’ the Nagaon deputy commissioner for halting traffic during his visit which led to a traffic jam near Gumothagaon on National Highway 37.

Are DC sahab ye kya natak hai? Kyu gari rukwaya hai? Koi raja-maharaja aa raha hai kya? Aisa mat karo aage. Logo ko kasht ho raha hai. Gari jane do (What is this drama DC sahab? Why the vehicles are stopped? Is a king coming here? This should not happen again. People are suffering. Let the vehicles go),” a visibly angry CM Sarma told Nagaon deputy commissioner.

Following the incident, the chief minister said that the state government wants to create a culture where DC, SP or any government servant or public representative will work only for the people.

“In our state, we want to create a culture where DC, SP or any government servant, public rep-irrespective of background, intellectual capacity or popularity will work only for the people. Changing babu mindset is tough, but we are determined to achieve our goal-Janta hi Janardhan,” Assam CM added.

Further, Sarma told the bus drivers to continue the traffic movement on the road.

The chief minister was in Nagaon district on January 15 to lay the foundation stone of a road, inaugurate a park and attended a programme at Nowgong College.
