The Assam Police on January 17 filed the chargesheet against 14 accused persons in the Jorhat student leader mob lynching case.

Animesh Bhuyan, the education secretary of the Brahmaputra Anchalik unit of All Assam Students Union in Golaghat district, died in a mob attack in the heart of Jorhat on November 29, 2021.

A senior police officer of Jorhat district said that the special investigation team has completed its investigation into the case and a chargesheet was submitted on January 17.

“We have chargesheeted 14 accused under Sections 109, 117, 143, 147, 148, 149, 341, 325, 326, 307, 302/34 of IPC against whom we found evidence,” the senior police officer said.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, as promised the Jorhat district police has chargesheeted 14 accused persons (one has since died & one is child in conflict with law) in the infamous Animesh Bhuyan assault and murder in 50 days.

“Police has been directed to have expeditious trial,” Sarma said.
