With over 2800 fresh cases, the number of active COVID-19 patients went past 9000 on January 11 as the third wave of the pandemic continues the spiralling trend.

The Assam government on January 11 reported detection of 2837 fresh cases of COVID-19 while 449 patients were released during the past 24 hours.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 9253.

In Kamrup Metro district, 870 fresh cases of the viral infection were detected while 215 people tested positive in Jorhat. As many as 189 cases were reported in Cachar and 170 in Dibrugarh district.

Two deaths – one each in Nalbari and Sonitpur districts – were reported in the state.

With this, Kamrup Metro district has reported 4189 positive cases since January 2.
