CPI national leader D Raja who arrived in Imphal on February 22 to take part in the party’s election campaign in the poll-bound Manipur said that the BJP should be defeated for the progress of the country.

Addressing a press conference in Imphal, the CPI national leader said that India’s development pace got retarded under the BJP rule. He also said that the CPI made a pre-poll alliance with the Congress and other like-minded political parties with the main objective of defeating the BJP in Manipur.

The CPI leader also criticized the BJP as a political wing of the RSS and corporates.

“BJP’s interest in corporate made the poor people of the country poorer,” he alleged. “BJP is the political form of RSS whose idea is sectarian, divisive, communal and fascist,” he added.

Raja then said that even after becoming the prime minister of the country, Narendra Modi continues to tell lies to the people. “He still promises to impart jobs to two crore youths in a year and to increase farmers’ income double,” Raja said. “Everyone knew the yearlong protest by farmers across the country against three farm laws enacted by the BJP government. Is it a sign of love for the farmers?” the CPI leader asked.

Raja then said that there is no freedom of expression in the country under BJP rule.

“No development can be brought about by using muscle and money powers during the election times,” Raja said.

The CPI leader then urged the people of Manipur to choose right and worthy candidates if development is to be brought forward.

Leaders of the state unit of CPI and representatives of left parties who are part of the Manipur Secular Progressive Front also attended the press conference.

Manipur Secular Progressive Front is a common platform of six political parties of Congress and Left parties fighting the ensuing polls as pre-poll alliance.
