Former Manipur chief minister, Okram Ibobi Singh, criticized the BJP-led government in the state saying that it had not able to complete any of the projects initiated by the then Congress government in its five-year tenure.

“Except indulging in cheap propaganda and telling lies to confuse the people, this government has done nothing in the last five years,” Ibobi Singh said, while speaking at a Congress election event in Wangjing-Tentha in Thoubal district on February 7.

He said that Union ministers holding different portfolios used to visit the state almost every week. Even the prime minister visited the state on many occasions. “Their visits were so frequent that the state government was even unable to discharge its normal service. However, what new projects or schemes have they announced for the state so far?” he asked.

“They came here only to lure the people by telling lies,” Okram Ibobi Singh further said and added that the Union ministers visited the state to campaign for the party in the backdrop of official tours.

“These ministers went on visiting the state but not a single package for the development of the state was announced so far,” he further alleged.

The former three times chief minister then said that at the initial stage of the formation of the BJP-led government people did keep a lot of hope that as the party is in power at the Centre, the latter would give special focus in the field of development. “However, the people are disappointed,” he added.

Ibobi Singh also said that national leaders of the BJP repeatedly claimed that the Centre was giving special emphasis to the development of the state and other Northeast states. “But all remained on the table only as they were paying lip service only,” he said.
