The sleuths of vigilance and anti-corruption cell of Assam Police arrested a superintendent of taxes and his close aide from Assam’s Morigaon district on corruption charges.

According to the reports, a team of directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption caught red-handed one person named Rajesh Kumar Gupta after he had collected the bribe money of Rs 30,000 from the complainant.

Rajesh Kumar Gupta had allegedly taken the bribe money on February 19 on behalf of Sonit Borthakur who is the superintendent of taxes.

The CPRO of Assam Police said that a complaint was received at the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption, Assam to the effect that Sonit Borthakur, superintendent of taxes, Morigaon had demanded a sum of Rs 30,000 from the complainant for absolving him from tax liability and penalty.

“The victim was sternly told by Sonit Borthakur to pay the amount as bribe, through Rajesh Kumar Gupta, his close confidante. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption, Assam for taking necessary legal action against the public servant. A trap was laid by a team of the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption near the hospital of the complainant and caught red-handed Rajesh Kumar Gupta. The tainted bribe money of Rs 30,000 was recovered, in presence of the independent witnesses,” the Assam Police CPRO said.

A case has been registered in ACB police station against Sonit Borthakur and Rajesh Kumar Gupta and both have been arrested in connection with the case.
