Favourites Shillong Lajong FC went down to local outfit United Chirang Duar 0-1 in a group D match of the 68th Bordoloi Trophy football tournament played in Chirang in Assam on March 28.

The three points earned by United Chirang is vital for them as they enhanced their chances for a semifinal berth. Both the teams failed to execute a goal and the match was heading for a stale draw before TA Vailland found the net for Chirang Duar in stoppage time (90+1′).

In a Group A of Bordoloi Trophy match played at the Judges’ Field in Guwahati, Silchar’s India Club played a 2-2 draw with Gauhati Town Club. The one point was sufficient for India Club to book a berth for the semifinal. They became the first team to reach the semifinal of this edition. They have won both their previous outings.

On March 28, India Club avoided the initial scare and managed to salvage the match with a draw. Their talisman and tournament’s top scorer V Vignesh scored a double (65′, 72′) to help his side recover from the early setback. The Silchar outfit had conceded an own goal by V Sashikumar (5′) and Pingkul Basumatary scored another for GTC (59′).

But Vignesh was outstanding to cancel out both the goals.

In Group C, it was raining goals as CISF scored 5 goals against Bodousa Club. Scorers for CISF are Rajdeep Singh (20′, 52′), Shakti Nath Oraon (42′), Maninder Singh Negi (45+3′), Md Fhaleed (55′).

The venue of the last match of Group A between ASEB SC and ITBP, scheduled to be held at the Judges’ Field on March 29, has been shifted to Nehru Stadium (Guwahati) due to unavoidable circumstances. The date and the venue will remain the same, said the organisers.

Matches scheduled for March 29: (Group A) ASEB SC vs ITBP in Guwahati; (Group B) Delhi FC vs Assam Rifles, Shillong in Baihata Chariali; (Group C) Bodousa Sports Club vs Nagaland Police in Sipajhar; (Group D) Assam Regimental Centre vs United Chirang Duar FC in Chirang.
