A police officer who was posted at Silchar Sadar police station in Assam’s Cachar district had allegedly shot himself with his service pistol inside the police station on March 21 evening, officials said.

The deceased officer was identified as assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gaur Bidhu Singh.

According to the reports, ASI Gaur Bidhu Singh had allegedly shot himself on head by using his service pistol while he was sitting on his desk at the police station.

Following the incident, other police personnel of the police station in Silchar rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood.

Cachar district superintendent of police (SP) Ramandeep Kaur said that, ASI Gaur Bidhu Singh had allegedly died by suicide inside the police station by using his service pistol.

“Necessary formalities are being followed up in this regard and we are yet to ascertain the cause of the suicide. Legal formalities are being undertaken,” SP Ramandeep Kaur said.
