One rape accused was killed in police firing while he allegedly tried to escape from police custody in Guwahati on March 15 night.

Police said that the accused Biki Ali tried to attack the police personnel on duty following which the police had to shoot at Ali.

Ali was brought to Gauhati Medical College Hospital where the doctors announced him dead.

A senior police officer said that two lady police personnel were injured.

Ali was the prime accused of a gang-rape incident that took place at Garigaon area under the Jalukbari police station.

Police had arrested Biki from an area near Hajo on March 15.

The police official said that a case was registered at Panbazar women police station against five persons including Biki Ali following the complaint lodged by the victim.

Four other accused youths are still absconding.

After the incident special DGP, law and order, Assam GP Singh tweeted: “Rape represents regressive mindset of controlling, scarring & destroying a girl/women’s mind and body. @assampolice would use all instruments of law to fight this evil. As a father & a Cop, grateful to Hon @CMOfficeAssam for crystal clear directions to this effect.”
