The Congress party in Manipur alleged that the hike in price of fuel has severely affected the livelihood of the public.
The opposition Congress has been staging a nationwide protest against the fuel price hike, which is at a record high currently.
In Manipur, the party has been staging protest condemning the increasing prices of essential commodities. Continuing the protest, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leaders and workers in Kakching district staged a sit-in-protest at Kakching Bazar on April 4.
Vendors of the market also participated in the protest.
During the protest, the protesters chanted slogans against the continuous hike in the price of fuel that led to the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities. The protesters condemned the BJP government at the Centre for hiking the fuel prices unreasonably. They charged that the hike in price of fuel has severely affected the livelihood of the public.
The hike in the price of fuel has led to the increase in the prices of essential commodities. This has forced the public to spend a major share of their income for filling fuel in their vehicles, they alleged.
Kakching district Congress leader Ksh Kennedy alleged that since the BJP came to power at the Centre price of fuel went on increasing.
“People, particularly the poor section of the society, were hit severely due to the ever-increasing prices of the essential commodities”, he alleged.
He further alleged that the common public have not benefited in any manner through the increased tax collection from the Centre.
Kennedy then announced that the Congress will continue to fight against such “anti-poor people policies” of the BJP government.
“The Congress party will not remain silent when the BJP government continues its anti-people policies. The party will also take the responsibility of being an opposition party in the state,” he added.
During the protest, they demanded the immediate roll back to the prices of all the petroleum products – petrol, diesel, LPG, piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG).
