The 29th convocation of Gauhati University will be held on May 6 at the university for conferring degrees, diplomas and certificates to the successful candidates (both regular and distance mode) of all examinations for which results were declared during the period from January 1, 2020, up to February 28, 2022.
Degrees will also be conferred to the candidates, who obtained their DLitt, DSc, PhD, and MPhil degrees from Gauhati University during that period.
Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi, who is the chancellor of the university, will preside over the programme. The convocation address will be delivered by the chairman of National Board of Accreditation KK Aggarwal.
Vice-chancellor Pratap Jyoti Handique will deliver the convocation address with appraisals. The academic procession will be led by GU registrar Hemanta Kumar Nath who will deliver the welcome address.
The executive council of Gauhati University with the approval of the chancellor of the university has decided to confer the honorary degree of Honoris Causa (DSc) to the former IIT Guwahati’s director DN Buragohain.
Honorary PhD degree will be conferred to renowned author Sumanta Chaliha, litterateur Nahendra Padun and distinguished scholar of folk culture Dharamsing Teron.
