12th edition of IIT Guwahati's annual Guwahati Half Marathon

IIT Guwahati Techniche, in collaboration with UNICEF Assam, organised the Guwahati Half Marathon on April 24. The marathon event was aimed at improving social and human contact among citizens in and around Guwahati.

The marathon, one of the largest events of its kind organised exclusively by students, has grown steadily since its start in 2009 to become one of the largest half marathons in Northeast India.

This year’s marathon attracted approximately 1,500 people from all walks of life who came to share their knowledge and concern for a better community. The 12th edition of the marathon was themed “Run for Child Protection, Stand Up with #Youth4Suraksha,”.

This year’s Guwahati Half Marathon urged the participants to be a part of the change that will benefit the society. It asked individuals to take greater responsibility for societal problems such as child labour, child abuse, child trafficking, cybercrime against children, illiteracy, malnutrition, and lack of growth. Guwahati Half Marathon’22 provided a forum for everyone to discuss these concerns, resulting in a little shift in public perspective.

The Guwahati Half Marathon was divided into three races to accommodate the large number of participants from diverse walks of life:

The Glory Run, the half marathon’s premier competition, was a 21-kilometer race designed primarily for the elite runners. This division attracted participants from all around India.

The Spirit Run was a 6-kilometer event organised specifically for Guwahati residents. This event drew people of all ages, urging all residents to get together and run a race for a good cause.

The General Championship was an event that was only open to schools and colleges. The trophy and enticing prizes were given to the top three institutes.
