Forensic experts investigating the site in front of a shop in Imphal

A powerful explosion, suspected to be an IED, rocked Imphal on May 5 morning. No casualty was reported.

Sources said that the bomb suspected to an IED was triggered in front of a shop which deals with car spare parts located opposite Nagamapal Babu Thong under Imphal police station, around 3 am.

The shop belonged to Prakash Sethi (40) presently residing at Mantripukhri.

Apart from damaging the shutter and other parts of the shop, the impact of the blast also damaged a car parked in front of the shop.

A team of Imphal police station along with forensic experts of the Manipur Police department conducted a spot enquiry in the aftermath of the blast.

The police are yet to ascertain if any of the armed groups operating in the state was behind the blast and the reasons for targeting the shop.

No individual or organization has owned up responsibility for the blast till the time of filing this report.
