Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that prime minister Narendra Modi accords top priority to the development of the Northeast region.

The Union ports, shipping & waterways and Ayush minister, who was in Arunachal Pradesh’s Ziro on June 9, said that the Centre gives priority to the region to drive an ecologically responsible economic growth of the New India.

Sonowal interacted with a number of beneficiaries of government’s welfare schemes at Hija and Lempia villages in the picturesque Ziro Valley in Lower Subansiri district.

Speaking about the role of Northeast in New India’s economic progression, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said: “Under the dynamic leadership of prime minister Narendar Modi, the people of India are finally availing benefits that have helped their ease of living through welfare schemes of the government.”

“It gives me immense pleasure to personally interact with many of you today and hear how these schemes like, PMAY, PMUY have made such useful impact on your daily lives. Let me assure you that the mantra of Modi government; i.e. Seva, Sushashan and Garib Kalyan will continue to drive our vision of developing a strong, prosperous & proud new India,” he said.

Apart from interacting with the local people and organisations, Sonowal relished a traditional Abotani lunch at the residence of Taru Tatung in Hija village.

Interacting with the people, he highlighted the importance that the Modi government accords to the Northeast. “Since Modiji took charge as prime minister, the Northeast has received its due attention like never before. Due to this renewed vigour to elevate Northeast economically, the region has experienced tremendous growth & development in these 8 years,” he said.

The Union minister earlier in the morning took part in the Yoga Utsav near the Sikhe Lake as part of 12 days countdown to the International Day of Yoga. He was accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh education, cultural affairs and indigenous affairs minister Taba Tedir and agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and veterinary minister Tage Teki along with other yoga enthusiasts.
