Video grab from the trailer of 'Soul of Silence’

‘Soul of Silence’, (Xhobdo Nixhobdo Kolahal) an anthology of three stories – The Silence, The Sound and The Dissonance by debutant director Dhanjit Das and produced by Monita Borgohain, will be screened on July 16 and 17 at Jyoti Chitraban, Kahilipara in Guwahati.

The film is an outcome of the efforts of several youngsters – most of them are alumni of Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute.

“This wonderful Assamese film by debutant director Dhanjit Das is a visually and emotionally appealing drama set around the human sense of hearing. Brilliantly enacted and executed,” said actor Kopil Bora after watching a special screening of the film.

The director has tried to portray the shades of human life with a special reference to sound at different layers.

The sound: The first story in ‘Soul of Silence’ deals with an isolated woman named Malaya. Though married, her life is solitary and the sound of an insect becomes her companion on sleepless nights.

The silence: The second story is about a deaf labourer – Kala – who works at a stone crusher mill. His life was carefree and fun till a hearing aid turned his life upside down.

The dissonance: The third story deals with a group of construction workers – Bengali-speaking Muslims – and their lives. The chaos in their lives doesn’t let them live a normal life. It narrates the story of a couple – Nur and Ruksana – that loses their newborn in an accident.

The film is produced by Monita Borgohain. “All of them (the team) are young and they were struggling to complete the film. They approached me. I asked them about the story and also asked the director if he was pretty sure to pull it off?” said Borgohain.

Convinced by the confidence of the director, Borgohain came forward to fund ‘Soul of Silence’.

“After watching the film, I think it was a wise decision. I think Dhanjit and co will go a long way,” Borgohain added.

Anamika Sarania, Jeet Baruah, Swagata Bharali and Prasanta Kalita were seen in the main roles.

Director Dhanjit Das, who has also written the story and the script of ‘Soul of Silence’, studied cinematography at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI).

Dhanjit thanked the producer and others at DBHRGFTI for helping him to complete his maiden venture.

On July 16 and 17, there will be three shows daily at the Jyoti Chitraban auditorium for public viewing of ‘Soul of Silence’.
