Several boarders of Cotton University hostels were injured on early morning of July 2 when clashes broke out between the inmates of two hostels.

In the brawl, several students were injured while reports of damage to property also emerged.

Reports said that a group of hostel boarders allegedly hurled bricks, bottles and other objects at another boy’s hostel of the same university at around 1.45 am on July 2.

In retaliation, the students who were sleeping during the attack, tried to hurl similar objects.

Television reports said that one of the students who was critically injured, was taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

While the exact cause of the incident was unknown, the Cotton University campus was abuzz with protests in the last few days over the student body general secretary joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
