Manipur Police on August 10 arrested five Myanmar nationals, including a woman, on charges of illegal intrusion.

Police in Manipur’s Churachandpur district arrested the five Myanmar nationals. Police said that a team of Churachandpur district police picked up the five foreign nationals from a place in the district during an operation based on specific information.

During spot verification, none of the foreigners was able to produce documents to establish their identities and citizenships. Moreover, none of them knew Manipuri, Hindi or English, the police also said.

The police booked them under the Foreigners Act.

This is not the first time in which police arrested Myanmar nationals who were found illegally staying in the state.

In recent times, the police had arrested at least 80 Myanmar nationals, including 20 children, who were illegally staying in the Churachandpur district in the last week of June.

The police booked the 80 foreign nationals, including 35 women after they failed to produce valid documents to justify their presence in Indian territory and disclosed that they were all citizens of Myanmar.

Most of them were found in two rented accommodations.
