Kritanta Sarma

International junior tennis player from Guwahati, Kritanta Sarma has been awarded a substantial amount of academic and athletic scholarship from the University of Texas at Arlington in US which is a division-1 public research university in Arlington, Texas, founded in 1895.

Kalpana Chawla, the first woman of Indian origin to go to space, obtained a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from this university in 1984.

Kritanta will be pursuing a four-year’s bachelor’s degree in business management and finance and will be a member of the Mavericks men’s tennis team while being sponsored by Under Armour and Nike for his tennis needs.

Kritanta is a left-handed tennis player who started his career at the age of seven years at All Assam Tennis Association complex, Chachal, Guwahati. His first achievement was at the age of nine years at an under-10 national ranking tournament in Lucknow.

He started the early stage of his tennis training in Assam, then he went on to pursue advanced level training in Ahmedabad, Racquet Academy under Australian coach Todd Clark. He continued his career by being in the top 15 in national ranking for five consecutive years with 18 national-level titles and 14 state-level titles. Also, he was a gold medallist in CBSE school games.

Faculty Senior Secondary School, where Kritanta studied from KG to class 12, has supported him a lot in his education and sports.

Principal Nilotpal Bordoloi appreciated him for scoring above 90 percent in 10 and 12 board exams despite being an athlete and also congratulated him on joining the University of Texas.

Now Kritanta is set to leave for the university to achieve his future goals in mid of August.

Ankush Dutta, general secretary of All Assam Tennis Association wished him the best of luck for his future and also said that this type of achievement will encourage upcoming junior players to go ahead in sports along with their studies.

Kritatnta is the eldest son of Rajib Kumar Sarma and Tapasi Das Sarma of Geetanagar, Guwahati.
