Man held with brown sugar worth Rs 8 crore in Manipur

Troops of Assam Rifles arrested a person after brown sugar worth over Rs 8 crore in the international market, in Manipur, reports said on August 21.

Police identified the arrested person as Thangkholel Taothang of Churachandpur district of Manipur.

He was detained by the troops of 20 Assam Rifles after 4.01kg of brown sugar packed in 89 soap cases were intercepted from the vehicle he came with.

Police estimated the value of the seized illegal drugs to be over Rs 8 crore in the international market.

The troops intercepted the contraband drugs during a check to the vehicle at its Khudengthabi check post along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 on August 20 evening, around 5pm.

The detained person along with the seized item has been handed over to Moreh police station where a case was lodged against him, police further said.
