At least two security personnel were injured in a gunfight with suspected militants in Nagaland’s Mon district, early morning on August 15.

Citing official sources, news agency ANI reported that two Assam Rifles jawans were injured in the gunfight with suspected NSCN-KYA militants on August 15.

“Injured jawans evacuated to Jorhat Air Force hospital for treatment. The casualty of militants also suspected; search operation on,” Assam Rifles said.

The gunfight with “likely NSCN-KYA” insurgents occurred at around 2:35 am on August 15 at Nyasa in Mon district.

“Alertness and round the clock vigil by #FriendsofNorthEastPeople thwart yet another attempt to disrupt peace,” the security forces said.

Officials said that acting on a tip-off about the movement of militants, the troops laid multiple ambushes to dominate the area.

Around 2.35 am, the personnel noticed suspicious movement on a jungle track between Zankham to Nyasa.

On being intercepted, the militants opened fire, which was appropriately retaliated, causing severe casualties in the militant group, Assam Rifles said.

Mon deputy commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma told PTI that the administration is yet to receive any report of casualties on the other side.

The situation is now normal and the Independence Day celebrations have been peaceful, he said.
