7th convocation ceremony Assam Kaziranga University

The Assam Kaziranga University, one of the leading universities of Northeast India, organized its 7th convocation ceremony on September 19.

The ceremony was conducted for a total of 1,480 students, including PhDs of both 2020 and 2021 batches. The convocation ceremony was hosted at the university campus at Koraikhowa in Jorhat.

The Assam Kaziranga University convocation ceremony was inaugurated by Basant Khetan, pro-chancellor of the university.

In his speech for the occasion, Khetan congratulated the graduating students and expressed his happiness on seeing the students achieve their academic milestone. Referring to the university’s 10 years of existence, Khetan expressed his commitment to serve quality education in the region and reiterated the need to adapt the teaching-learning process with the need of the changing times. He further urged the students to set goals for life and never lose focus from the goals.

Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Rishikesha T Krishnan, attended the programme as the chief guest. Beginning his speech by applauding the contribution of the promoters in bringing quality education to the region, Rishikesha emphasized the importance of innovation, creativity and determination.

Impressed by the Assam Kaziranga University’s emphasis on innovation, Krishnan urged the student community to look for innovative solutions to problems affecting the society and contribute actively to the nation.

Vice-chancellor of Assam Kaziranga University, PK Mishra congratulated the students of the graduating batches. In his speech, Mishra highlighted upon the various achievements done by the university and emphasised the importance of academic rigour, skill development and research in bringing development to the Northeast region.

Emphasising on the importance of empowering the youth with state-of-the-art facility, the VC reiterated the commitment made by Assam Kaziranga University in shaping the future of the region with quality and value-based education.

The university conferred honorary doctorate upon three distinguished personalities. The first honorary doctorate was presented to G Satheesh Reddy for his contribution towards the growth and development of the nation. Reddy is an eminent defence scientist and scientific advisor to the defence minister. In his encouraging speech, Reddy emphasised upon the importance of technology and how the nation is going to get benefitted with the robust technological advancements.

The second honorary doctorate was presented to Gauranga Das for his contribution towards creating a sustainable society by bringing positive changes through spirituality. Gauranga Das is the governing body commissioner, ISKON & director, Govardhan Ecovillage.

Gauranga Das in his speech, urged the students to develop skills along with achieving academic excellence. Emphasizing on the need for creating a spiritual tradition, Das stressed upon the students for the need of connecting with tradition and culture of the state for their all-around and holistic development.

The third honorary doctorate was presented to Sudip Banerjee for his contribution towards the field of technology and management. Banerjee is the founding member and ex-president, Wipro’s IT business & ex-CEO & board member, L&T Infotech Ltd.

Banerjee, in his speech, talked about the importance of the educational institutions in creating balanced education all around the nation. Emphasizing upon the need to move along with the pace of technology, Banerjee shed light on the role of education and technology in building a sustainable nation.

Other distinguished personalities present at the convocation ceremony were – Rainy Khetan, director Kaziranga University, Prashant Goswami, ex-director NISTADS, New Delhi, and Shantikam Hazarika, founder director, AIM Guwahati.

The university strongly believes that the foundation of a strong nation lies on the abled shoulders of its skilled young men and women and the university has always worked for providing an industry-aligned curriculum to the students of Northeast by creating skilled young professional with strong values and character. As the university sends off its students out in to the world, it wishes its students to shine bright and achieve best in all their endeavours,” said a statement from the university.
