At least seven people, including a circle officer and several government officials of Dhubri district, went missing as the boat they were travelling has capsized on the river Brahmaputra on September 29.

Police in Dhubri said that the rescue operations are on. “We don’t have much information as of now. The rescue operations are going on,” a police officer said.

Sources said that a team from the Dhubri circle office had gone to take stock of some erosion near the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge on river Brahmaputra when the accident occurred.

Dhubri circle officer Sanju Das was among around 30 passengers in the country boat. The accident took place at around 10.30 am.

The rest of the people could be rescued with the help of local people and SDRF.

“There is a small channel near the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge. The team was crossing the channel on a wooden boat when it hit something and capsized,” said Dhubri deputy commissioner MP Anbamuthan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
