Northeast zone shooting in Guwahati from Sept 10

The 9th edition of the North East Zone Shooting Championship will be held at the Assam Sports Shooting Range, 4th APBn Complex, Kahilipara in Guwahati from September 10 to 13.

The tournament will be held in small bore rifles and pistols.

The office bearers of Assam Rifle and Shooting Association (ARSA), which is organising the event, said that more than 257 shooters from all across the Northeast will participate in the four-day competition.

“We look forward to the competition where several established and promising shooters from the NE region will take part. The participating states are Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Army Marksmanship Unit and Assam Rifle Marksmanship Unit besides the hosts Assam,” said ARSA president Diganta Barah. Barah is also the secretary and commissioner of the home and political departments of the Assam government.

Out of the total participants, hosts Assam will have the largest contingent with 82 shooters. Apart from that, 53 shooters from Manipur, 45 from Meghalaya, 31 from Mizoram, 25 from Nagaland, 17 from Assam Rifle Marksmanship Unit and four shooters from Army Marksmanship Unit will try for their supremacy.

The events are: 10m air pistol (men/women), 10m air rifle (men/women), 25m standard pistol (men/ junior men), 25m sports pistol (women/junior women and junior men), 25m centre fire pistol (men),  50m sports rifle prone (men/ women, junior men/junior women), 50m – three position – kneeling/standing/prone – (men/women, junior men and junior women) and 50m free pistol (men and junior men).

The competition will begin at 9 am every day. The prize distribution ceremony will take place on September 13 in the evening.

Among others, junior world champion Hriday Hazarika will also participate in the championship, said ARSA general secretary Bhaba Kalita.
