Sikkim Police has launched, ‘House Watch’, a novel scheme for the safety of residents leaving home for some time. Police personnel will keep vigil around the houses when the owners are out.

“It is to assure house owners of the safety of their property and to prevent theft, The police will check the house regularly,” said J Jayapandiyan, superintendent of police of Soreng district in West Sikkim.

According to the SP, it is a pilot initiative. The owner is expected to inform the police before leaving his residence temporarily. The police would confirm the safety of the house to the owner after checking the property.

Live GPS location would be sent to the owner via WhatsApp. But the owner is required to fill up a form in advance. They can also do it on the Facebook page of Soreng Police.
