Meghalaya’s opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) said that the attack on innocent people and damage to property during FKJGP’s rally in Shillong on October 28 was because “youngsters” took the law into their hands as they have lost hope.

“The youngsters who protested yesterday (Oct 28) against unemployment expressed their loss of hope by taking up law in their own hands,” the leader of the opposition, Mukul Sangma said on October 29.

“It is a clear warning sign, and hence we need to be careful,” in a three-line statement, by the former chief minister warned.

Mukul also described the violence in the state capital as the “saddest moment in the history of Meghalaya”. Several people were assaulted and vehicles damaged by the participants in the rally who took part on the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People-sponsored unemployment rally.
