Tripura has been adjudged as the cleanest state in the country among the small state with less than 100 urban local bodies in Swacch Sarvekshan Survey 2022.

President Droupadi Murmu on October 1 awarded the state as the top scorer in the annual cleanliness survey being undertaken by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.

Tripura urban development minister Manoj Kanti Deb received the certification of Agartala city for its performance in the maiden edition of the Indian Swatchhata League campaign, which was launched to create a waste-free city from September 17 to October 2, 2022, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

This initiative to create a waste-free and plastic-free city has been appreciated by the central government as one of the best cities among cities with a population of 3 to 10 lakhs.
