Two from Arunachal Pradesh missing on Indo-China border

Two men from a remote village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district have been missing for nearly two months from the district’s Chaglagam circle along the Indo-China border since August 24.

The duo – Bateilum Tikro (33) and Bayingso Manyu (35) – both residents of Duliang village under Goiliang circle have left their native village on August 19 for Chaglagam in search of local medicinal herb and hunting at high altitude hills along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and have been missing ever since.

Police said the matter came to light on October 9 when the family members of the missing men had filed a missing report with the Hayuliang police station.

According to Anjaw SP Rike Kamsi, the family members have been searching for the duo in their own capacity for the past one-and-a-half months.

“As per the missing report, both of them were seen at Rocham village near the LAC on August 24. Someone had reportedly called one of the family members about seeing them in the village,” Kamsi said.

The SP said that he is in the process of connecting with the army personnel of the area. He, however, added that due to bad connectivity he has been unable to do so.

“We are trying to connect with the army through SIB but the network is very bad,” he said.

Fearing that they might have crossed over to another side of the international border, the SP exuded hope that the matter could be discussed during flag meetings between the army personnel of both countries.

Anjaw deputy commissioner Talo Jerang said that he has sought a detailed report on the issue from the CO, Goiliang. “The report is to be submitted by tomorrow evening (October 16). Then only I will be able to tell what the exact matter is,” he said.

He said, no one from the family of the missing persons have approached him about the matter.

Meanwhile, one Dishanso Chikro, younger brother of Bateilum Tikro, has written to Hayuliang MLA Dasanglu Pul, seeking her personal intervention into the matter and requesting her to take a quick step to trace them out at the earliest possible.

“We have tried our level best to trace them in and around the Indo-China border and many other possible locations but in vain,” the letter said.

Chikro also mentioned that an FIR (first information report) has been lodged with Khupa police station under Hayuliang circle in this regard.

This is not the first incident in Arunachal Pradesh that people in the villages of the bordering areas to go missing. Arunachal Pradesh shares an international border with China, Myanmar and Bhutan.
