Sailing and rowing boats were introduced for demonstration at the inaugural session of The Rising Sun Water Festival at Eastern Command Aquatic Node (ECAN) at Umiam lake near Shillong on November 3.

All together 160 participants of various groups of sailing and rowing associations across India are showing their skills in the three days – first of its kind water sports competition during the festival at Umiam lake organised by Eastern Command near Shillong in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the three-day Rising Sun Water Festival 2022 at Umiam Sports Complex.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, CM Sangma said that this is the largest such water festival being organized in the state.

“Inaugurated the Rising Sun Water Fest 2022 as part of @kheloindia organised by @adgpi & the Govt. of Meghalaya at Umiam Sports Complex. Great to see the boating regatta on the scenic Umiam Lake with participants from elite clubs from all over the country,” CM Conrad Sangma later tweeted.

The Indian army and the Government of Meghalaya as a part of Khelo India programme, is organizing the rowing and sailing event.
