NEZCC presents colourful Northeast folk dance show at Hornbill Festival

North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur under the Union ministry of culture conducted a day-long cultural extravaganza on the seventh day of the 23rd Hornbill Festival on December 7 at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, Kohima.

The Hornbill Festival, which is under way is celebrated by the department of tourism, Government of Nagaland from December 1-10. It is organised to showcase Nagaland’s deep-rooted traditions and its rich cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur.

The Hornbill Festival is a collaborative celebration of all the Naga tribes at a dedicated venue and it is known as the “Festival of Festivals”. The festival is also a tribute to the “great Hornbill”, which is an admired and revered bird for the people of Nagaland and also the Northeast states of India.

An eye catching and colourful choreographic folk dance presentation was showcased by NEZCC, Dimapur consisting of 102 artistes from the region.

The artistes from the land of rising sun – Arunachal Pradesh performed Erap dance of Galo tribe, followed by artistes from land of red rivers and the blue hills – Assam who performed Domahi Kikan dance of Karbi tribe, the land Jewells – Manipur presented Pung, Dhol, Dholak Chollom, Thang-ta and Cheirol Jagoi stick dance of Meitei, followed by Shad Pliang dance of Jaintia  tribe from the home of clouds – Meghalaya.

Artistes from the land of highlanders – Mizoram presented Cheraw dance of the Mizos and performance from land of snow lion and mountains – Sikkim, Singhi Chham of the Bhutias and from land of handicrafts – Tripura with the performance of Hojagiri dance of the Bru & Reang.

“The rich and vibrant art forms showcased by artistes of NEZCC received a huge applause from the cultural lovers and enthusiastic gathering from different parts of the country and abroad at Kisama of Kohima during the programme, which was choreographer by Anjoy Kachari assists by Brajen Baro and Rajib Baro,” stated Naba Kumar Bharali, media coordinator, NEZCC.
