Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 was closed for a few hours on December 19 after an abandoned bike, suspected to be fitted with explosives, was discovered near a station of the 5 Assam Rifles in Tengnoupal district.

The highway was reopened after no explosive found fitted at the abandoned bike when bomb experts examined.

Sources said that the troops of Assam Rifles sounded the bomb alarm when a sniffer they deployed to examine a Kenbo bike which was abandoned at the Key Location Point Checkpost of the Assam Rifles.

Police commandos in Moreh town also rushed to the spot after receiving the information and cordoned off the area.

Additional SP (Op) of Tengnoupal district police and deputy commandant of 5 Assam Rifles also arrived at the spot to take the first hand stock of the situation.

It was after the bomb experts from Tengnoupal district headquarters examined and confirmed that no explosive was fitted in the abandoned bike, the highway was reopened for traffic in the afternoon, the source added.
