West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee being greeted at Shillong airport as she arrives for a two-day visit, in Shillong on December 12

All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) chairperson and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in Shillong on December 12 ahead of the 2023 Meghalaya assembly polls.

Banerjee was welcomed by a sea of supporters and admirers at the Umroi airport.

Mamata Banerjee was accompanied by AITC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is visiting the state for the third time.

During her two-day visit, she will be attending a series of events accompanied by Meghalaya Trinamool Congress leaders.

On December 13, Mamata Banerjee will hold a party workers’ convention at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, State Central Library, Shillong with key TMC leaders of the state. She will also meet representatives of all district and block committees, members of women, youth wings.

In the evening, Banerjee would be attending pre-Christmas celebration with children from different orphanages, tribal headmen from Khasi and Jaintia Hills, eminent members from the civil society and prominent personalities of Meghalaya based out of Shillong, at a resort in Umpling, Shillong.

After her arrival at the Umroi airport on December 12, AITC legislature party leader and leader of opposition, Mukul Sangma said: “We’re very happy that the AITC chairperson is here on her first-time visit. All the foot soldiers from the party from nooks and corners of the state have got their chance to meet the chairperson.”
