7 screenplays shortlisted for Manipur State Film Development Society mentorship programme

Aiming to nurture a good cinema culture in the state, Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) launched its first screenplay incubation and mentorship programme.

The society invited present and fresh screenwriters from Manipur to apply with a screen project, to be developed during the 6-month intensive screenplay lab.

Altogether 15 screenplay projects were received for the lab and out of them, the screen lab selection committee shortlisted 7 projects for the mentorship programme. The selected projects dealt with contemporary issues, steeped in cultural nuances.

To make the screen lab fruitful, it will be divided into two phases: Applicants would be mentored on the basics of screenwriting, adopting a combination of online and offline mode of interaction in the first phase.

After a thorough understanding of the basics, the applicants would then be mentored on their specific projects in the second phase by film industry experts from outside the state.

The lab was announced in September 2022 which is designed as a hand-on crash course in screenplay writing for feature length fiction films. The preliminary online submission to the limited seat lab closed on October 15, 2022 and the final pitch of the incubated screenplay projects is to be held on March 31 with attractive cash awards, grants and commitments for production.
