The Assam tableau showcased the valour of legendary Ahom army general Lachit Borphukan at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi on January 26.

Lachit Borphukan (1622-1672) is an incredible embodiment of indomitable courage and valour, sacrifice and patriotism. He was the greatest general in Assam’s history.

Ahom king Chakradhwaj Singha chose Lachit Borphukan to lead the Ahom army against Mughals.

In the battle of Saraighat under Borphukan’s command, the Assamese army registered a decisive victory against the Mughals.

The tableau of the Northeastern state themed ‘Land of Heroes and Spiritualism’, comprised two parts – Lachit Barphukan on a boat and a structural view of the sacred Maa Kamakhya temple.

The trailer depicted the structure of Kamakhya temple located on Nilachal hill, on the bank of the river Brahmaputra in Guwahati, one of the most important pilgrimage destinations.

The replica of Shiva Dol and Rang Ghar of Sibsagar district was shown.

Bihu dance, an indigenous folk dance of Assam related to the Bihu festival which is an integral part of Assamese culture, was also showcased. Dhol, Pepa, Bahi, Taal, Gogona are the musical instruments played in Bihu songs and dances.
