The Election Commission of India (ECI) on January 18 announced byelection to the Lumla assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district on February 27.

As per the ECI poll schedule, the counting of votes will take place on March 2.

While the date for the issue of gazette notification is January 31, the last date for filing nominations is February 7 and the scrutiny of nominations is scheduled on February 8.

February 10 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature and the date before which the election shall be completed is March 4.

The byelection was necessitated following the death of incumbent MLA Jambey Tashi on November 2, 2022 in a Guwahati hospital after a brief illness.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force to the whole of Tawang district stated a release from the chief electoral officer, Arunachal Pradesh.

The electoral roll for the Lumla assembly constituency, which has been finally published on January 5 with January 1 as the qualifying date, will be used for the bypoll.

As per the latest e-roll, Lumla constituency has a total of 9,169 electorates, including 4712 females and 4457 males. It has 33 polling stations.
