Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma paying tribune to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the 55th Annual Conference of All Bodo Students’ Union at Bodoland Fwthar in Rowta, Udalguri district, on January 29. Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Sarma said that he was happy to attend the conference which reflected the vibrancy of the students’ union which has been working for the socio-cultural and academic empowerment of the people.

Paying rich tributes to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma on this occasion, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that as the president of the union, Bodofa also laid a strong foundation for the socio-cultural and academic development of the people of BTR.

The chief minister said that the people belonging to the Bodo community are an indispensable part of ‘Bor Asom’ (Greater Assam).

“They have been playing a great role in tandem with other people to contribute to the growth of the state. ABSU is playing an important role in the socio-economic-cultural and academic development of the people of BTR. In future also this impressive role has to go on for the overall development of the people of BTR,” Himanta Biswa Sarma was quoted as saying in a press statement.

The chief minister said, after the Bodo Accord in 2020, there has been newfound peace in the BTR. He, therefore, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah on this occasion.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government is working in right earnest to implement all the provisions of the Bodo Accord. He also said his government in the budget would make budgetary allocations for the Udalguri campus of Bodoland University in Udalguri.

Moreover, 10 colleges in BTR will be provincialised, Sarma added.

Paying homage to the great souls like Kali Charan Brahma, Roopnath Brahma, Satish Chandra Basumatary, Dharanidhar Basumatary, Charan Narzary and Pramad Chandra Brahma, chief minister Sarma attributed their role to the socio-cultural and academic development of BTR.

Hailing the role of ABSU, chief minister Sarma said, since its inception, the student body has been working for the empowerment of all sections of the people of the state.

He said that in recognition of the immense role played by Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, the state government has decided to celebrate 31st March the birthday of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma as Chatra Diwas to strengthen unity among the students of all communities.

Chief executive member BTC Pramod Boro, deputy CEM Gobinda Chandra Basumatary, irrigation minister Ashok Singhal, minister of handloom and textile UG Brahma, ABSU president Dipen Boro, VC Assam Agricultural University Bidyut Chandra Deka, VC Sido Kanhu Murmu University Sonajharia Minz, MP Rwngwra Narzary, CEM Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Mihiswar Basumatary and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
