Meghalaya police arrested four persons and seized 650 Kg of gelatins sticks and 200 electric detonators from a cowshed in East Jaintia Hills district, police said on January 17.

The seizure was made on January 16 night based on credible information that three to four youth have been spotted roaming suspiciously at the jungle areas of Jalaphet Bri-Sumer carrying carton of boxes.

The arrested youth were identified as Point Chyrmang, Nikalai Chyrmang, Mij Chyrmang and Shanbor Chyrmang.

“During the late-night raid at the nearby jungle, one cowshed was spotted at the jungle and four youths were seen to be sleeping inside the shed,” Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills said.

He added: “On waking them and on inspection of the cowshed, multiple carton boxes were found. On opening the carton boxes, it was found that the boxes contained gelatin sticks and electric detonators.”

Dhanoa said the investigation is on to find out the motive for storing the illegal explosives.
